Lomunyak with his 'Badges of Honour' (Print)
Description
“This elephant touched me deeply – for his story is particularly harrowing. He was nearly dead when he was rescued from a flooding river, and it is truly a miracle that he survived. Lomunyak still bears the scars from a brutal attack, presumably by a lion or crocodile, which happened before he was washed down the fast-flowing river. I think that today, he wears these scars like badges of honour – and I was moved to paint him… scars and all!” – Karen Laurence-Rowe
